Reading
Today the moons reading group, we were reading a book called games we play. We got to go outside and Olivia taught us how to play elastics! We were using Miss Dippie's elastics from when she was 6. Here are some photos of us having fun in the sun!
The galaxies read about albatross and measured out the length of an albatross from wing tip to wing tip. It was 3 metres. We lay down next to it and got a photo.

How Maui slowed the Sun
A long long long time ago the sun zoomed across the sky. There was not enough time for the villagers to do their jobs. So Maui had an idea. So Maui and four brothers made some ropes out of flax. They went to the Sun's pit where it slept And they threw the ropes over the sun. They pulled the ropes until the sun was very weak. Sometimes you can see the magic ropes dangling from the Sun.

We are busy getting ready for production.
Miss D is out of the class today getting a few things organised and we have some amazing parents who are all ready to whip up the costumes.
One of the songs that we are going to sing is Slice of Heaven so Miss D has put it on the the blog for us to practice at home.

PE with Mr L
Today for PE with Mr L we were learning about beat and rhythm.
We played a game where we acted out being a character. We were Wreck it Ralph. We had to walk like we were him, brush our teeth and even eat breakfast like he would.
Tom was really good so we synchronised and all did what he did at the same time.
Next Mr L. Taught us some Samoan words. He drummed the beat and we had actions.
They got trickier and trickier!
We can't wait until next week.

Today the whole school got dressed up for the Book Parade. The theme was traditional tales.
We all went to the hall and watched each class parade around the hall with their buddy class. We saw some excellent costumes like, the Gingerbread Man, Three Blind Mice, Robin Hood, some of the 7 Dwarfs, the cards from Alice in Wonderland, Billy Goats and the Big Bad Wolf. The teachers got dressed up too. Miss D was the Queen of Hearts, the Year 7/8 Teachers were Cinderfella and the Ugly Step-Sisters. Mr Cole painted himself blue and was the Genie in Aladdin. Lots of parents came to watch. We all had lots of fun. There are prizes for the best costume in each team.

Our Visit to the Rapaki Marae
Today the Year 1's went to visit Rapaki Marae on the bus.
First, when we got there we had to wait outside to be welcomed in. After that we could go into the Wharenui (or Meeting House).
Then, Nuk spoke to us about the Marae, the area and the people from the Marae. He spoke to us in Maori and then English.
Next, Grant and Paul spoke for us and thanked Nuk for letting us visit the Marae. We sung to say thank you, and sang Tutira Mai to them. Then we all lined up and did a hongi. Some of us felt a bit nervous, but it wasn't so scary after all.
After that, Nuk showed us different of the Wharenui and told us the different stories of the tukutuku patterns and carvings. He showed us which carving was his Ancestor. Nuk also showed us some beautiful birds that were on the ceiling of the Wharenui. Next, we went for a walk down to the sea, and we learnt some stories about the big mountain behind the Marae. It is special to them, like Rapanui (or Shag Rock) is special to the people of Sumner.
Then we had lunch. After lunch we went into the Wharenui and drew picture of some of the beautiful patterns, carvings and decorations inside it.
Finally Skye and Joel thanked everyone for letting us visit and share their Marae with us.
We all had a great time at Rapaki Marae!
