There are lots of pictures. There are many pets. one of the pets looks sad. I know one has a broken bone because it has a cast on its leg. Lots of people are siting down. One of the people is standing up.

Our letters from Oaklands School

Today we got letters replying to the letters we posted to Oakland's School.
We each got our own letter. It was very exciting to get some mail!

Our Rangoli Art

On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Reid taught us.  We got to do some wonderful pastel rangoli patterns.
Miss Dippie was so impressed when she got back from her course. She thought Mrs Reid must've been busy colouring all afternoon.

We learnt that Rangoli Patterns are a special part of Diwali and are placed on doorsteps to welcome people during the festival. Usually they are made from coloured sands, petals or rice.  We made our with pastel so we can put them on the wall.

Rangoli Patterns,

For our inquiry we are learning about celebrations. Our big book this week is called Diwali. Diwali is Indian new year. The Indian new year is at a different time to New Zealand new year. For Diwali, people make beautiful symmetrical patterns called rangoli patterns. They welcome people and bring good luck. They are made with coloured powder or rice.
For maths we have been learning about geometry so we made our own rangoli patterns with the shapes.















For art we are making rangoli patterns with pastel.

Today in reading...

Today in reading for the Planets group we made stick and leaf art. We did it because today's story was about nature. In the story a boy went to visit his gran's farm and they collected things for art.

The purple present

Yesterday we opened the purple present again. We all got to hold the box and shake it first. It was very light and rattled.




Inside the box were some stories about different celebrations.
Olivia figured out that, that must be what we are learning about.
We talked about celebrations that Room 2 celebrate and then came up with some questions about what we want to know about celebrations. Miss D was really impressed with the questions we asked.

They are up on the inquiry wall.
The inquiry bus has now moved along the road a bit as we are up to the asking questions part of "diving in"

Today in the purple present...

Today when we opened the purple present we found...
Santa Bear.

We think that we might be learning something about Celebrating Christmas.

Miss D shook the box after Santa Bear was out and there is something else in there as it made a rattling sound.

We wonder what can be inside!

Purple Present

Yesterday we all got a surprise when we came to school. In the middle of the mat there was a gigantic purple present! We wrote some stories today about what we thought was inside.
Harvey thought it might be a class pet. Ella thought we might have a letter saying we're going on a trip.
Miss D said it was something that we were going to learn about.
We opened the present and inside there was...

A golden balloon!

We thought maybe it means we might be having a party but we didn't know what that meant we are learning about.

Tomorrow we are going to get our next clue from the box.
