Forets Phonics

In Room 2 this week we are learning the ng sound in phonics.

Today we played this great game on the whiteboard and computers where we had to spell the ng words.

Miss D. has put the link up for us, so we can play at home.

Flat Stanley

Yesterday Ali brought Flat Stanley to school. He came all the way from England. Charlie, Ali's friend sent him to us to see what we get up to at Sumner School.
He watched us do phonics, and came to team singing with us. He went up onto our space wall and visited Saturn! He learnt that Saturn is a gas planet and it has thin rings made of ice, rock and dust. He also learnt how the moon changes shape because of where it is in space. Flat Stanley found out that it takes about a month for the moon to go around the Earth, and that the moon almost spins as fast as the Earth so we always see the same side of it.
In the afternoon he came to PMP. We taught him how to do a pencil roll. We liked having Flat Stanley visit. We would like to know more about what school is like in England for Flat Stanley and Charlie.

Space Lesson with Bungle Bear and Astro Bear

Yesterday Julie came to teach us about Space, with her friends Bungle Bear and Astro Bear. Bungle Bear didn't understand why we have day and night and why the moon shines brightly.  Room 2 helped him.

This is Bungle Bear

This is Astro Bear

This is the sun and the Earth

Zara is showing us how the Earth goes round the Sun. It takes a whole year!

Troy is showing us how the Moon goes around Earth. That takes a whole month.

These children are showing us how the moon goes around the Earth, while the Earth is going around the Sun.

Our Space Inquiry

For Inquiry this term we are learning about Space, and we are all really excited about it.
On Tuesday we went to the Starlab and saw the planets and the moon. It was amazing.  Next week we have Julie coming in to teach us more about Space.

Here are some of our stories about what we know about Space.

Space has lots of planets. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are gas planets.  Saturn's rings are made of ice.

Today we saw our solar system.  We saw Venus.  I was excited.  It was cool.  I loved it!  We looked at some pictures.  We found out that Saturn's rings have ice in them and it's made of gas.  The Sun is made of gas too.  It was amazing!  It was so, so, so, so fun!

Today we saw stars. It was so cool.  We saw the world.   The Sun is a star. The stars were awesome.  My class came too.

Yesterday we went to the Starlab.  We got to see Earth.  We saw Venus.  We got to see the sun.  My favourite part was seeing the stars.  Everything was cool.  The starlab was black.  The Sun is a star.  Some of the planets are hot, some are cold.
