Last full day for 2013

Today was our celebration of our learning.
When we got yo school all the tables had been moved into one long table covered in red and green table cloths.

We all had a special name tag on the table. On the table was the purple present with a notice saying do not shake.

Throughout the day we got to open the purple present.
Inside there was candy canes and craft materials to make candy cane reindeer. Another time there was a bowl of reindeer food. The last time there was a Christmas card for each of us.

Hank finds an egg.

Once Hank was walking along the forest and discovered a egg feillen from the tree!
"Oh no! This could of broken!" He gasped. "But I can't reach the nest." So he made a

We loved our Christmas Concert. Here we are all dressed.

The giraffe who could't dance

Once in far, far away juggle there was a poor giraffe called Gerald.He could eat leaves but he could't do much.He could't run or dance.He scuttled around the place when he ran. He was sad. Every year they did a performance and every body went there, but when it was Gerald turn Gerald started to go home.Then he heard some music and then something amazing happened.Gerald's hooves started moving neck and tail started moving too. Gerald Said " I AM DANCING"

Once upon time there was a giraffe called Gerald.He had knobbly knees. Gerald could eat leves from high trees but when he tried to dance and run be just fell over.So at night he walked back from the juggle dance and he heard a whisper in his ear.A cricket was there and he said you only need your own music.The cricket picket up his violin and played a tune.Then Gerald felt his hooves shaking and his knees swishing then his tail flicking and finally he was dancing!

Giraffe can.t dance

Once a upon time was a Giraffe called Gerald he couldn't dance and he couldn't run the other animals could run and dance, by the other animals could run and dance. The other animals laughed at Gerald so Gerald felt sad. There was a cricket and he made a song for Gerald. He could dance to the music and then every animal could dance and that was fair for all the animals. Gerald was so happy, he swung his tail and then he did a backwards flip on a tree.

Gerald can't dance

Once upon a time in a far away land,there was a giraffe called Gerald. He could not dance because his knees were awfully and his legs were rather thin. Every week they held a Jungle dance when Gerald arrived he felt rather sad because he could not dance. When Gerald stepped forward the lions saw him coming and they started laughing. Gerald sadly walked home. "Excuse me" coughed a cricket. "Everyone can dance" he said softly. So he went on the dance floor and every animal arrived. Gerald boogied on and they all watched quite interested.

Hank discovered a egg.

Hank discovered An egg on the forest floor. He tried to put it back in it's home. It was getting dark so he made a bed and he lay down. In the morning there was a humming bird and she had come to get her egg.Then hank made a parcel for the egg. So the humming bird flew up the egg.

How to make a mask

You will need:
Felt pens
Card board with face out line
Scissors
Pencil.
1.first draw the patterns that you want
2. Next draw patterns like eyes or nose
3. Colour it in
4.cut the eyes out and cut the mask out you will need an adult to help with that.

At Garfield's market they had face painting.They painted my face like a skeleton.I saw people selling meat and fruit.There were heaps of people.I liked getting my face painted.

Goats for Oxfam

Earlier this term the year 0-2 team collected money to buy a goat for Christmas for children in Papua New Guinea. We were hoping to get enough money for one or two goats but we actually raised enough for 8! 
Today we received a card from Oxfam thanking us for our donation.

Fireworks

In some fireworks on Guy Fawkes they change colour in the sky.One of the fireworks I saw was called Saturns missile and the sound it made was ear
splittingly loud.Other people that where watching had to cover their ears.Some of a firework landed on Rufus's head but it didn't hurt him. I like fireworks.

Athletics

Today we had athletics rotation to help us get ready for Athletics Day on Wednesday.
First we did high jump and then we did beach flags. After that we did hurdles with Mrs Lean, then long jump. Then we did relays and the egg and spoon race. Finally we did long distance running.
This is the order we will have on Wednesday but we will do the sprints when we are all done.

Giraffes Can't Dance - Retold By Zara

Once there was a clumsy giraffe called Gerald and he could not dance. Every year the animals had a Jungle dance but Gerald was useless at dancing. The warthogs danced so beautiful and the lions did a tango dance and the chips even did cha cha and the hippos rocked and rolled. A Lion saw Gerald coming in and he started laughing. Gerald went into the jungle and a grasshopper told him that he needed to try harder and find his own music. Suddenly, Gerald 's hooves swooped in circle and

Our Rangoli Art

On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs Reid taught us.  We got to do some wonderful pastel rangoli patterns.
Miss Dippie was so impressed when she got back from her course. She thought Mrs Reid must've been busy colouring all afternoon.

We learnt that Rangoli Patterns are a special part of Diwali and are placed on doorsteps to welcome people during the festival. Usually they are made from coloured sands, petals or rice.  We made our with pastel so we can put them on the wall.

Rangoli Patterns,

For our inquiry we are learning about celebrations. Our big book this week is called Diwali. Diwali is Indian new year. The Indian new year is at a different time to New Zealand new year. For Diwali, people make beautiful symmetrical patterns called rangoli patterns. They welcome people and bring good luck. They are made with coloured powder or rice.
For maths we have been learning about geometry so we made our own rangoli patterns with the shapes.















For art we are making rangoli patterns with pastel.
