Adopting a garden

Room 2 has adopted the garden outside our classroom. We noticed that it was full of weeds and that the gardening ladies already had lots of work to do. We thought that we could help by doing the gardening at discovery time.
Today we had four mums who came to help us weed all the garden. We had lots of fun and we are excited to plant some seeds and plants in it next term.

Sly fox and Little Red Hen

Today Rooms 2, 5 and 6 were lucky enough to get to watch Sly fox and Little Red Hen performed by Ali, Alannah, Maggie and Will.
They had wonderful expressions. All of us were very impressed.

Our Letter's journey

We watched this video to see what happens to our letter next..

Going to the Post Office

This morning Room 2 walked down to the Post Office. We have been learning to write letters and we all wrote a letter to Room 15 at Oaklands School. Miss D's friend Mrs Snooke teaches Room 15. They are year 1's too.
We put our letters into an envelope and wrote the address on it. Then we had to get a stamp. Cooper got to buy the stamp and stick it on. Finally we posted some letters.

Blowing Bubbles

This week the Planets read an article about how to make bubbles.  They learnt what they needed to make bubbles so today in Discovery we made some.

To make bubbles you need:

8 tbsp of dishwashing liquid
2 tbsp of water
1/2 tsp of cooking oil

Mix it together.

We made some bubble wands from paper clips. We discovered that the best containers for bubble mixture were shallow ones because it was easier to get the mixture.

Algebra

We are learning about algebra. Algebra is about patterns. Today we made some patterns. Then we had to swap every few minutes and continue someone else's pattern.

Can you figure out Cooper's tricky pattern?

Dress Rehearsal

Today was our dress rehearsal for our Celebration of the Arts.
Thank you to all the parents who have helped out with our amazing costumes. All the time that you have put in has really been appreciated.

Here is our class story we wrote today after our dress rehearsal.

We felt excited to perform our production, but a bit nervous when we saw the audience.  The whole school sung Tena Koutou loudly.  Next, we waited quietly in Room 7 for our turn to perform.  It was a wee bit scary and nerve-wrecking once we saw the audience.  When the music started it was ok because we were happy to be performing  At the end of our performance we felt proud because we tried our best.

Below is a sneaky peak of some of the photos from our dress rehearsal. - Thanks Bridget for taking them!

Wiggles the Lamb

We were all excited to walk down to Ali's house to visit his lamb.
When we first got there Wiggles was in his pen. Wiggles was really thirsty, so Ali's mum got him some lamb milk. Everyone got to feed him. After that we had a play and some delicious muffins in the sunshine. It was exciting to see Wiggles because for lots of us it was our first time feeding a lamb.

The Playground Opening

Everybody was really excited for the opening of the playground! Lots of parents were taking lots of photos.  It was fun and it looked cool.  Everybody shouted and cheered for Hannah, because she cut the ribbon.  Finally Mr Cameron spoke and he said, "I wish I was a Sumner School kid," and...
he was because he took off his jacket and pants and he had a Sumner School top and shorts underneath.  He raced up the top of the spider web.
